Trip to Acatlan

This past weekend was a very fun one! On Friday we decided to go with some friends to check out this International Book Fair at the Expo. We kept hearing about it from so many people. So, we loaded up in the car and headed out. Keep in mind we were 6 girls in the car, and I'm definitely the shortest!!! Jen is the 2nd "shortest" at 5"8, and the rest are all taller than that, up to Claudia who is over 6".

Apparently the book fair was THE place to be on Friday night. The line-up to get in was so unbelievably long, and we realized by the time we MIGHT get in...it would be time to close up. So, we walked to Starbucks instead! I am currently hooked on the Peppermint Mocha!

Jen and Yahaira played a riveting game of checkers...or something like it!

Judith, Claudia and I cheered them on! Who needs a book fair anyways!?!

On Saturday Jen, Cheyla and I piled into the car once again for a little trip out to a town named Acatlan to visit some friends there. We have started Tuesday Games' Nights with our friend Josh (from our Spanish class) and his girlfriend Francis, who is from Acatlan. They invited us to come out, get to know the town and her family. It's less than an hour out of the city, and it was so much fun to get out and see something new!

Francis took us on a little tour of town...and part of the tour included the "Pantheon", which is the cemetary. I don't know if you've ever seen a Latin American Cemetary, but they are interesting...and creepy!

They are very "family oriented", so each family owns one of these crypts, where they can bury multiple people. Some of them are closed and locked up...but some stay open so you can look inside. It kind of feels like a setting for some kind of horror movie. This is the inside of one of them...since it was recently "Day of the Dead", there are still a lot of flowers and wreaths.

Then Josh and Francis took us climbing up these steep stairs to see the view of Acatlan. It was well worth the effort.

It was so much fun to get to know Francis better, and get to meet her family! They wanted to make sure that we were safe driving home in the dark because not to long ago her dad hit a donkey that was crossing the road! Apparently the car was damaged really badly, but the donkey just got up, shook his head, and trotted off!! Only in Mexico!!!

There are some other very fun pictures that were taken this day, but they are not ready to be posted yet. You're just going to have to stay tuned in anticipation. Take my word for it, they're going to be great!!
